Steps and tips on choosing the right bike

Steps and tips :

Many people run out to the trek bicycle store and buy whatever the salesman says is a excellent bike. Typically, the bike is not ideal for the owner. Here are some simple steps and tips on choosing the right bike for you.

Steps:

  1. Decide what type of riding you are going to do.
  1. Fit is everything.
  1. Go to many stores and sit on and ride all types of bikes.
  1. Determine the correct frame size by sitting on many bikes and finding what feels comfortable for you to sit on.
  1. Determine the amount of money that you want to spend.
  1. Compare the components of one bike to those of another.
  1. Choose whether you want a light weight bike.
  1. Keep track of all the benefits and downsides to each model.
  1. Decide what aspects are most important to you and go for the one that fits you and offers the best value.

Tips:

  1. Weight is a huge selling point in bicycles. Higher end bicycles usually weigh much less. If you don't need to find the lightest bike on earth, save yourself a few hundred dollars and find one that is light enough for you to lift comfortably.
  2. Lights are critical for night riding.
  3. Fenders will help keep you dry if the road is wet.
  4. The type of tire has a huge impact on the ride.
  5. Never shy away from buying used!
  6. Don't get caught up in biking jargon if you are a beginner. Many bike shops have hard core riders as employees and they get excited about technical things that will not matter to you as a beginner. Remember where you will ride the bike and stay within your price range.
  7. Buy the right size. Most men will need a 19" frame and 26" wheels. Women will need a 17" frame and 26" wheels.
